Residential Roof Repair

Why Prompt Roof Repair Protects Your Home

When a roof problem shows up, waiting rarely helps. A small leak becomes water damage in the attic. A few missing shingles become an exposed roof deck that soaks up rain. Damaged flashing turns into rot in the framing beneath. At Atlantic Roofing Company, our ShingleMaster™ certified team has been repairing residential roofs across the Wilmington area for decades, and we’ve seen firsthand how quickly small problems escalate when they’re not addressed. A prompt, professional repair now saves homeowners thousands of dollars in interior damage, structural repairs, and premature roof replacements down the road.

Whether the damage came from a hurricane, a fallen branch, aging materials, or a leak you can’t quite locate, we handle every kind of residential roof repair on shingle, metal, and specialty systems. Our approach is simple: assess honestly, repair properly, and only recommend a full residential roof replacement when a repair truly isn’t the right answer. You get the truth about your roof, not a sales pitch.

Signs Your Roof May Need to Be Replaced

Replacing or repairing a roof is one of the most common things homeowners are faced with. Even the best roofs will become damaged and worn over time from age and weather. Here are five signs to help you decide when it’s time for a new roof.

Curling & Buckling Shingles

When the shingles on your roof begin to curl or to buckle, it’ll soon be time to replace them. There are two kinds of curling: cupping, when the edges of the shingle start to curl upward, and clawing, when the edges stay flat, but the middle starts to pop up. If either of these happens to your shingles, they are past their prime and will be ready to be replaced in the near future. On a warm day, bend the shingle; if it cracks or breaks easily, it’s probably time to replace it.

Gutter Bald Spots & Granules

If there are bald spots — very dark spots on the shingle — where the granules (the rough texture of the shingle) are falling off, the shingles are definitely beginning to age. You might start to notice a lot of these granules beginning to collect in the gutter, where they end up after being washed off by heavy rain. If these bald spots continue to increase in size, it’s important to get your shingles checked out and your roof looked at as soon as possible.

Daylight Through Roof Boards

Head into your attic. If you can see daylight coming through the roof anywhere, you need to take a look at your roofing. If sunlight can get through, so can rain and snow. This also means your insulation is poor and you’re losing heat – and driving up that heating bill! Check the area around these spots for active leaks the next few times it rains, and try to get it fixed as soon as possible.

Cracked Shingles

Cracked shingles are usually a sign of wind damage. You probably won’t need to replace the whole roof right away; if just a few shingles are cracked, you can quickly and easily replace them just to patch it up. If, however, the cracked shingles are spread out randomly across the roof and not isolated to one or two places, it may mean that wind damage will continue, and the roof may need to be replaced in the near future.

The Roof Is Sagging

If your roof is beginning to sag, you’ve got problems. This is especially the case for valleys and dips in the roof, where rainwater and snow tend to collect and could cause serious damage. A sagging roof is usually a sign of more serious and structural damage; it could be in the decking in the attic, or even in the supports in the foundation. It’s best to get this looked at right away – your ceiling may not fall on you, but it’s always better to get it taken care of while it’s small and localized and before it spreads. Be sure to call in a professional as soon as possible.

Residential Roof Repairs We Handle

At Atlantic Roofing Company, we handle every kind of residential roof repair, from a single missing shingle to full sections of storm-damaged roofing. Whatever the material, whatever the damage, our team brings certified workmanship and honest recommendations to every job.

Shingle Repair and Replacement

From replacing individual shingles to patching sections damaged by wind or falling debris, shingle repair is the bread and butter of what we do. We work with CertainTeed Landmark® shingles to match your existing roof as closely as possible, so repairs blend in rather than stand out. Cracked, curled, and torn shingles are all common repair jobs we handle regularly on Wilmington-area homes.

Metal Roof Repair

Metal roofs are among the most durable systems on the market, but they still need occasional repair — resealing seams, replacing damaged panels, addressing fastener issues, or handling corrosion. Our team is certified to work on standing seam, multi-rib, and 5-V crimp metal systems, and we handle repairs on residential metal roofing of every profile.

Leak Detection and Waterproofing

Finding the actual source of a roof leak is the hardest part of any repair. Water can travel a long way from the entry point before it shows up inside your home, and homeowners often waste money patching the wrong spot. Our leak detection process traces water back to its actual source, so the repair we do actually solves the problem — not just the symptom.

Flashing, Vents, and Chimney Repair

The transitions where your roof meets a chimney, wall, vent, or skylight are the most vulnerable spots on any residential roof. We repair and replace damaged flashing, reseal penetrations, and re-flash chimneys and skylights to restore the watertight seal your roof depends on.
